Charlotte Mason by Subject Part 1

This is a brief summary of Charlotte Mason's teaching philosophy by Subject. I found it difficult to adopt all of the Practices, but it is a welcome addition to much of what we already do. Charlotte Mason believed in education as a way of life and for those of us living that out in our educational roles her philosophy can become the way in which we teach small children.

Living books: which are used instead of textbooks which can be uninteresting and watered down.

Narration: Children are to give as much detail as possible in recalling what is read to them or once they read on their own, what they have read. Narration builds so many skills. This is an invaluable tool to reading with very young children. It can help them build reading comprehension later too! When a child becomes good at narration they have learned how to think about reading.
